DECADENCE
By Nate Bernardini
I never thought I'd sing again.
I thought I lost all my inspiration.
Flooded in their words
Which please to deceive;
Make us believe that we are powerless.
Preachers philosophy entertainment.
Children educated by porn.
Wake up! These screens
can strangle our thoughts.
Turn it off before the world brainwashes us.
Governments are bombing the innocent.
Turn your cameras and they'll slam their doors.
Stay tuned! They got more
Trash for us in store.
Blinded by blinded ignorance.
And they don't believe we're gonna sing again.
They're sure we're just gonna stay on their trails.
Tied to their leashes
And muddled in their mesh.
Break through and defeat this decadence.
Revolution.
We need a revolution.
Right now.

SHORTY
By Nate Bernardini
Take me to the place
Where they all like to dance
Shorty's in the back and always
Waving her hands and saying,
Say my name.
Say my name.
Put the light on my shoes
And let me do my thing.
I'm like a falling rain.
I'm a midnight train.
Put the light on my shoes
And let me do my thing.
You can take me to the hood,
Take me to the ghetto.
When the light is on my shoes,
I turn the night sky yellow.
Ladies, say my name.
Say my name.
Put the light on my shoes
And let me do my thing.
I'm like a falling rain.
I'm a midnight train.
Put the light on my shoes
And let me do my thing.
Look out!
I'm getting down.
Lower and lower and lower now.
Yeah. Turn around and do my moves
Jump on the bar and say, "Woo!"
Shorty is my name.
This city is my lover.
With so many lights,
I'm like a star undercover.
So take me to the place
Where they all like to dance
And Shorty's in the back and always
Waving her hands and saying
Say my name.
Say my name.
Put the light on my shoes
And let me do my thing.
I'm like a falling rain.
I'm a midnight train.
Put the light on my shoes
And let me do my thing.

CEOs
By Nate Bernardini
CEOs! Do your dance!
Capitalism remains in your favor!
Well in a world of obligations
You don’t have the right to choose.
They use your home as means of ransom
If you cannot pay your dues.
Live your life in such a way that
Bills are never getting paid,
Police will come, sell your stuff
Throw you on the streets!
So do this, do that, do this, do that,
Do this, do that, too.
If you don’t, legislation is
Gonna make sure you lose.
So work for your money,
And live for your money,
Make the rich even richer,
So that you can have some money
To give back to the rich.
CEOs! Do your dance!
Capitalism remains in your favor!
I said 1%! I said do your dance!
I said do your thang!
But no one’s dancing here,
These crowds are standing still.
This kind of poverty
Well it never had to be.
In a world of obligations,
You have the right to choose
Where you want to spend your money,
But we give it to the few
Inventing new technology
And forming our society
Thinking it’s necessity,
We sacrifice our salaries.
So pay this, pay that, pay this, pay that,
Pay this, pay that, too.
If you don’t, legislation is
Gonna make sure you lose.
So work for your money,
And live for your money,
Make the rich even richer
So that you can have that money
For that smartphone
Bought with that sweet loan.
CEOs! Do your dance!
Capitalism remains in your favor.
Said 1%! Do your dance!
Do your thang!
But no one’s dancing here,
These crowds are standing still.
This kind of poverty
It never had to be.
Well in a world of obligations
Exploitation is the key.
You take advantage of the poorest,
Pay as little as you please.
Some say this is fair and good,
I say that it’s a crime they should
Be locked and cuffed
With all their stuff
Thrown out on the streets!
They do this, do that, do this, do that,
Do what they want to.
If they break the law, it’s alright,
Legislation is for fools
Who work for their money
And live for their money
Make the rich even richer
So that they can have more money
That they don’t spend
To help the homeless.
CEOs! Do your dance!
Capitalism remains in your favor.
Said 1%! I said do your dance!
Come on! Do your thang!
But no one’s dancing here,
These crowds are standing still
This kind of poverty
Well it never had to be.

SPANISH FLY
By Nate Bernardini
Hungry soul fly.
Lady long legs.
Fly from her web
Or she'll draw you in
With her limelight
cause it shines so bright
One look and you're in her control
Then everything seems fine.
Poison sets the mood.
Emotionless and cold
Oh so cold
"What's the point now?"
"Use my body as your cane.
Now softly sing,
Hallelujah, amen
Love is dead, dead, dead."
Broken soul fly
In lady long legs
Spun in her web
And defeated
By her small mouth
Sweet and pout
One bite and you're in her control
Then everything seems fine
Much better than before
But emotionless and cold
Oh so cold.
"Where's my heart now?"
"My body's all you need.
Now softly sing
Hallelujah, amen
Love is dead, dead, dead"

SANDFLOOR
by Nate Bernardini
The sand is a dance floor
Shoes are my feet
Moon up above is a disco ball that shines
Stars on the walls of the skies
As I spin in perpetual motion
And the ocean tide
By its gravitational pull
Crawls up the shoreline
And tickles my toes
and a laugh reminds me
I'm not alone
And a girl next to me
Mixes up martinis
And sings in a bottle of wine
Like it's a microphone
And she blows my mind
And the fire reflects in her eyes
She draws me in
And we begin dancing
Around the flames
Then the fire dies
And it's time to resign
To our ordinary lives
Where nobody dances
And nobody romances
The night away
And there's smoke on the water.

BRIGHT BLUE SKIES
By Nate Bernardini
I thought about the past today.
I could not stop and people said
"Focus on the now"
So that's what I did.
I fell through a hole and into
Bright blue skies
Rays of sunshine
Turn the night sky beautiful
and share this wine
Bright blue skies
Rays of sunshine
Resurrect the present now, beautiful.
Beautiful bright blue skies
It was a cold December.
We were drunk.
Do you remember?
We were taking shots in the parking lot
Making out in the bars
Seemed our lives collided
At exactly the right time
I'm facinated by your conversation
Falling deep inside these
Bright blue skies...
Unforgotten memories
Are what the past is made of
And I just want to breathe.
Could you finally let me dream?
Let me dream now of her
Bright blue skies...

MAKE IT HAPPEN
By Nate Bernardini
Someone take me to the park
Cause I wanna see a hawk
Flying higher than the mountain why
Would I ever wanna stay
Cooped up all day
With a dream only seen in my mind?
Ya know, now is the moment we are facing.
What aren't we embracing it?
When this life is all about tasting it,
Let go for this moment ends
And then
Make it happen, baby.
Put your stress aside.
Put your heart in what you're doing
And see that money coming without you trying.
You know the weight you feel
Is a weight not real
This trap is a snap untie
Your addiction to conditions
Of predictable predicaments.
Listen! It's as simple as pie.
You just get to the source of the strain.
Follow your heart and stay.
You know your vision is a mission
That can only lead to betterment
So be a better man
And don't regret it and
Make it happen, baby...

BIBLES AND RIFLES
By Nate Bernardini
Seems like the world is falling to pieces;
A bullet flies through broken skin.
“Don't take my gun cause I believe in freedom.”
What the hell is goin’ on inside our mind?
“I'm a reverend with a rifle.
I bleed red, white and blue.
I uphold this constitution
Just like every Christian should.
I'm one of God's chosen people;
Born in this blessed land.
With my semi-automatic
Peace will have the upperhand.
Don't tell me about statistics
Or some 30,000 deaths!
We still need our amendment
And more guns to protect.
270 million:
Nearly one per capita.
But it still won't be enough
For this here war on the Muslims.
You see the Koran is the problem.
Its religion must be banned.
And these terrorists deported
To some godforsaken land.
It's just this first amendment
That we need to change.
With our Bibles and our rifles
We will be (Yeah, you will see!)
Truly free!"
Seems like the world is falling to pieces;
A bullet flies through broken skin.
“Don't take my gun cause I believe in freedom.”
What the hell is goin’ on inside our mind?

MUSICIANS MUST SURVIVE
By Nate Bernardini
You wanna book us at your venue,
But you can't pay a dime.
Yes we do this out of passion,
But we also must survive.
A concert is a service.
It's a lot of work and practice.
You're "sorry" you say,
"These are hard times."
But excuse me, man,
Musicians must survive!
And you just keep on saying.
"You guys are great! Don't worry,
You're gonna make it some day."
Do you think that I was born on planet Mars?
I'm not that handsome.
I sure as hell can't dance.
In reality, we're hardly even noticed.
This industry has gone to shit!
Come on, you know this.
You say, "But look! You're having a good time."
And I'll be honest; you're right.
But this beer you give still won't pay the bills.
Musicians can't simply live off cheap thrills.
I think it's time we open up our eyes;
Musicians must survive.
But you just keep on saying.
"You guys are great!
How would you like to come
and play in my club?"
Do you think that I was born up in the clouds?
I see right through you! I know how you exploit!
You want more people to come.
You need more business.
You're an abuser of this capitalistic system
of which many struggling artists have fallen victim.
Just because we do this out of love,
Doesn't mean you shouldn't pay.
Please don't act dumb.
I think it's time you open up our eyes;
Musicians must survive.
And you just keep on saying,
"You guys are great! Come on!
Play in my club! Go!"
And you just keep on saying,
"You guys are great!
How would you like to come and play for free?"
"Ummmm.....ok."

FREE
by Nate Bernardini
Some people say we got it good
We got no reason to complain.
But when I see what we do to the world
It's hard to feel free.
Some people say we live the life.
There's no better place to be.
But when I see what we do to the world
It's hard to feel free.
An SOS stitched in a sweater
Refugees have no rights.
And when I see we're not changing a thing
It's hard to feel free.
And though I see they got it worse,
We got the means to make it right.
And when I see we're not giving a thing,
It's hard to feel free.

DOWN
By Nate Bernardini
Don't you know that if somebody needs you,
That it means they need you now?
And if you don't go when they call you
They're going down, down, down, down, down?
Like when I hit rock bottom baby
Cause you were busy with some other man.
You just left me to go crazy.
You were the only one to calm me down.
Had your mother never told you
That if somebody needs you
That it means they need you now?
And if you don't go when they call you
They're going down, down, down, down, down?
Well I figured this time you meant it
But I needed you to make it clear
After all, you were my closest companion.
Was my love so hard to bare?
How could you turn from my tears
When I cried that I need you
And I begged to see you now?
You wouldn't come when I called you
So I went down, down, down, down, down.
And now you're with that man you swore
Was simply just your friend.
And although I saw it coming,
we could have had a better end.
And still I hope that if you leave him, too,
You'll remember what I said
In case he needs you,
and he says he needs you now,
If you don't go when he calls you
He's going down, down, down, down, down.
Like when I hit rock bottom baby
Cause you were busy with that other man.
You just left me to go crazy.
You were the only one to calm me down.
How could you turn from my tears?

HEATHER
By Nate Bernardini
Folded in this letter there's a feather
That she never, ever sent her
And I asked her what her name was
And she told me it was Heather
Waiting for the weather to get better
To go where she met her
And hit the ocean tide
Where the dove once flew above them
And let fall the symbol of her love for her
She picked it up and put it in her pocket
And locked her arms around her friend's.
They walked along the shore
The sunset fell before them.
And as they walked they knew they were
Fortunate to share the past they had.
Until she stopped to ask,
"Will you be my maid of honor?"
Although she always knew someday
This day would come
Within her heart she thought
That someday she would change her mind
And always be her Heather.
"Dead friend,
I have loved you forever."
Folded in this letter there's a feather
That she never, ever sent her
And I asked her what her name was
And she told me it was Heather
Waiting for the weather to get better
To go where she met her
And hit the ocean tide
Where she loves to dream about her
And watch the dove fly above her

GHOST TOWN
By Nate Bernardini
I knocked on the door
Of my own parents' place
They answered it
But didn't even know my face.
I said, "Remember me?
I'm your middle son!"
They said, "We're sorry, boy,
We'd forgotten."
I'm a ghost in my own home town.
I've been gone for way too long.
I walked down the street
Where my friend used to live
We used to sit around and
Talk about nonsense
But I guess that he
Won't be up for it
Since he moved away
Got a scholarship
I'm a ghost in my own home town.
I've been gone for way too long.
No I remember when
We moved away
She said to me,
"Could we leave today?"
So we packed the bus
Moved to Vegas
No I regret it.
It wasn't worth it.
She just left with a
One way ticket,
And as I'm looking back,
I was out of my mind
and wasting my time
For way too long.
